It boasts over 440 stores, a cinema, restaurants, and even an amusement arcade. LaLaport TOKYO-BAY opened in April 1981 as Japan’s first American-style shopping center designed for car-driving shoppers. It originally featured two anchor stores: The Daiei supermarket and the Sogo department store. Over the years, LaLaport TOKYO-BAY has undergone seventeen large-scale renovations. The mall has continuously evolved to meet the changing times and customer needs. One of the most interesting additions is LaLaPOP. This permanent pop-up shop area hosts a rotating selection of trendy, limited-time stores. So you can discover something new with every visit to LaLaport TOKYO-BAY. In 2019, a large renovation added 51 new and remodeled stores. Some of these were brand new to Chiba Prefecture. They even remodeled the parking areas and added a moving walkway. This walkway connects the mall directly to the Minami-Funabashi Station, making access even easier. LaLaport TOKYO-BAY also collaborated with Yahoo Japan Corporation on a field trial. They integrated the mall’s floor map and tenant information into Yahoo! MAP. This makes navigating the massive complex much simpler.
