You’re standing right at the heart of Lak Song, on the Thonburi side of the city. Lak Song, which means “the second milestone”, was once part of Nong Khaem district, but in 1998 it merged with Bang Khae, a newly established district. This name tells a story. It refers to the second milestone on Khlong Phasi Charoen, a beautiful canal dug during the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV) that connects Bangkok to Krathum Baen, a town in Samut Sakhon province. You can almost picture the boats gliding along this historic waterway, carrying local goods and connecting communities. Speaking of connections, Lak Song is a major commuter belt into the city, so the roads might be a little crowded at rush hour. In the Lak Song neighborhood, you’ll find a vibrant array of shops and restaurants, serving everything from delicious local delicacies to international fare.
