Lak Song, which means “the second milestone”, was once part of Nong Khaem district, but in 1998 it merged with Bang Khae, a newly established district. This name tells a story. It refers to the second milestone on Khlong Phasi Charoen, a beautiful canal dug during the reign of King Mongkut (Rama IV) that connects Bangkok to Krathum Baen, a town in Samut Sakhon province. You can almost picture the boats gliding along this historic waterway, carrying local goods and connecting communities. Speaking of connections, Lak Song is a major commuter belt into the city, so the roads might be a little crowded at rush hour.
