It wasn’t always smooth sailing though. During the Korean War, the base was bursting at the seams, housing recruits in temporary “I dormitories” that sprang up almost overnight. And can you believe that for a brief period during the Vietnam War, basic training was shortened to a mere 24 days? Thankfully, they realized they needed a bit longer to mold those recruits and extended it back to six weeks.
Today, Lackland Air Force Base isn’t just about basic training. It has evolved into a hub of specialized learning, boasting six technical training squadrons that equip airmen with skills ranging from cybersecurity to logistics.
