Envision a rectangular building with a dark aluminum facade. This is Laborgebäude 1. Today I will tell you about this important building.
Laborgebäude 1 stands with its long side facing north-south towards the Marienberg. The cellar partially disappears into the mountain under ground level. This creates a visual base for the three upper floors. These floors stand out with a white plaster facade.
The building officially broke ground on Monday, November 28, 2016. Dr. Dietlind Tiemann thanked everyone involved in the project. She stated that Haus 11 is needed. It ensures quality in medical care. It also fulfills the function in healthcare.
The modern building was planned to be completed in spring 2019. The construction costs totaled approximately 20 million euros. The Heinze ArchitekturAWARD 2021 recognized the building.
The address of Laborgebäude 1 is Hochstraße 29 in Brandenburg an der Havel. Muellerkrieg architekten part mbb created this building.
Laborgebäude 1 has between three and five floors. The gross volume is 26235 cubic meters. The gross floor area measures 6043 square meters. The usable area is 3009 square meters. The estimated construction costs were 8756696 euros. The total costs reached 20450510 euros excluding the land.
The pathology department is on the first floor. It contains laboratories for pathological examinations. There are also doctor’s offices for evaluation. The Medical University operates modern laboratories and training rooms. They are located on the second floor. The basement mainly houses the technical center. Some technical systems are openly installed on the flat roof.
The building has a reinforced concrete skeleton construction. The outer walls are load-bearing. A central staircase with an elevator provides access. Entrances exist on the ground floor and in the basement. Two escape stairwells are also present.
The building was planned as a two-corridor solution. Side rooms and rooms without natural light are in the building core. The four central media shafts are also located here. They supply the building with air, cold, water, electricity and gases.
Window bands structure the facade. Aluminum profiles frame them. Vertical rotating sun protection slats are integrated. Inside, system partition walls with glazing towards the corridors create transparency. They also provide a friendly working environment.
The outdoor facilities were redesigned. They integrate into the overall concept of the clinic grounds. RMP Landschaftsarchitekten from Mannheim designed the outdoor area.
Steffen Scheller said the new building strengthens Brandenburg an der Havel as a research location. It offers medical students excellent training. The MHB research dean, Dr. Mantke, stated that new research contracts acquired 3.7 million euros. “Haus 11” includes the pharmacy and the pathology department of the municipal hospital.
Georg Riethmüller is in charge of renovating the laboratory building.
