For over eighty years, La Porte Municipal Airport has been a cornerstone of this community. Right now, you might think it’s just a place for planes to take off and land. But let me tell you La Porte Municipal Airport holds stories that are far from ordinary. The airport, established in 1943, has seen its fair share of history. It’s a public airport owned by the City of La Porte and serves as a vital hub for general aviation in the region. Imagine the countless dreams taking flight from its runways – aspiring pilots, seasoned aviators, and everyone in between. But La Porte Municipal Airport has a somber side too. On July 15, 2018, tragedy struck when a homebuilt Kolb Twinstar III aircraft crashed near the runway. The incident, which claimed the lives of two individuals, serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks associated with aviation. Despite this tragedy, La Porte Municipal Airport continues to thrive. With its two asphalt paved runways, it accommodates a variety of aircraft and plays a crucial role in the local economy.
