High in the Andes the Arequipa Peru Temple stands. A majestic structure it greets the sun each morning. This isn’t just any building. It’s the 167th temple built by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The third in Peru to be exact. It’s a place of profound spiritual significance for the members of the Church. A testament to faith and devotion.

The Arequipa Peru Temple holds a special place. It’s one of the highest elevation temples globally. Only the Bogota and Cochabamba temples surpass it in altitude. Imagine the dedication it took to build such a structure at 2429 meters above sea level. Truly remarkable.

The story of this temple began in 2012. President Thomas S Monson announced plans. The groundbreaking ceremony happened in 2017. Carlos A Godoy presided. Church leaders ministers from other faiths attended. Local officials were also there.

The construction period was marked by dedication and hard work. On November 30 2018 a special event occurred. The golden angel Moroni statue was placed atop the temple. Hundreds watched. This symbolized hope and the completion phase was near.

A public open house followed from November 15 to 30 2019. Over 80000 visitors toured the temple. They learned about its purpose and the sacred ordinances performed within. The dedication ceremony was December 15 2019. Elder Ulisses Soares officiated.

The temple’s architecture reflects both modern design and regional influences. Features like the stylized Flor de Texao Arequipa appear throughout. You can find them in the wood carvings and the art glass windows. The temple’s interior is just as impressive. The materials are imported from all over the world. The carpets are from Italy and China. The artwork depicts Christ’s life and ministry. The gardens feature native plants. These include the national flower of Peru the cantuta.

The Arequipa Peru Temple is more than just a building. It’s a spiritual center. A place of peace and reflection. A beacon of hope for the Latter-day Saints in the region. It stands as a testament to their faith and their devotion. A breathtaking sight at such a high altitude.
