What secrets do these walls hold? La Casa de los Titeres stands before us. It is more than just a museum. It is a portal to a world of imagination.

La Casa de los Titeres was created in 1994. It moved to this location in 2008. This spot is just three blocks from the cathedral and Gran Plaza.

This building dates back to 1858. It started as a simple house. Later, it became the museum-theater we see today. It opened as a museum in 1992.

Inside La Casa de los Titeres, you will find four exhibition rooms. They display puppets from different times and places. The puppets showcase artistic styles. They use various manipulation techniques and materials.

One room is dedicated to Mexico. It highlights the country’s rich puppet tradition. This tradition goes back to pre-Hispanic times.

La Casa de los Titeres has a collection of 200 puppets. They represent diverse techniques and eras. These puppets come from many places.

Mexico’s puppet history is long. Archaeological finds show ancient roots. Clay puppets from the Olmec culture existed around 1300 BCE. These were 40 centimeters tall. They had movable limbs and heads.

The sacred book of the Mayas mentions wooden figures. These figures predate humans. A Franciscan missionary wrote about puppets. He described them as toys moved by a master’s whim.

When Hernán Cortés arrived in Mexico in 1519, he brought puppeteers. The Spanish conquest, however, forced indigenous puppeteers to hide. The Inquisition outlawed puppet shows.

Today, La Casa de los Titeres keeps this history alive. Besides the permanent exhibits, it hosts temporary ones. Every Sunday at 5 p.m., you can watch a puppet show.

La Casa de los Titeres also has educational programs. These serve students of all levels. Even groups from associations and churches can participate. Visits include a guided tour. They also include a theater performance and a puppet workshop.

Visiting La Casa de los Titeres is more than a tour. It is an experience. The museum lets you explore the intimate story of humanity. This story is told by puppets.

The address is Padre Raymundo Jardón, 910, Barrio Antiguo. You can call 83-43-14-91 for more information. The museum is open Monday to Friday. Hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. On Sundays, it is open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The entrance fee is 30 pesos. Sunday shows cost 80 pesos for adults and 50 pesos for children. School and group visits cost 35 pesos. This includes the museum, show, and workshop.

As we leave La Casa de los Titeres, remember the stories these puppets tell. They reflect Mexico’s history. They show the enduring power of imagination.
