Established in May 1913, the La Cañada Flintridge Library started small. Imagine it in the rear of a general store. It was only the second branch of the Los Angeles County Public Library system. Think of it as a tiny seed that grew into a mighty tree.
By 1915, the library moved to La Cañada Elementary School. It remained there until 1934. Then the library relocated to a store on Foothill Boulevard. It stayed there until June 1947. These were times of change and growth for the library.
Temporary quarters were found in an elementary school shop building. Finally, a dedicated library building opened on February 22, 1951. The La Cañada Flintridge Library had a home. This was a significant milestone.
The current building opened on June 16, 1971. That makes it a spacious 16791 square feet. It was refurbished in 1998. The checkout desk was replaced in 2002. These updates kept the library modern and welcoming.
Today the La Cañada Flintridge Library offers many services. There are spaces for children and teens. Meeting rooms can accommodate up to 118 people. The library also provides access to computers including express computers.
