The name “Küstriner Vorland” literally means “Küstrin’s foreland”. This tells us about its historical connection to the nearby town of Küstrin. Today, that town is the Polish city of Kostrzyn nad Odrą.
The municipality of Küstriner Vorland was formed in 1998. It was created by merging Kietz with Gorgast and Manschnow. Kietz’s history is intertwined with Küstrin. After World War II, the Oder-Neisse line divided the town. The part west of the Oder became Kietz. It was renamed in 1954. In 1991, residents voted to reclaim the name Küstrin-Kietz.
Gorgast is another village within Küstriner Vorland. It boasts a historic fort dating back to 1889. This fort was part of Küstrin’s fortification system. Peter Joseph Lenné designed the Gorgast park.
