How quickly things change. The Kursaal Diana, a place once echoing with the laughter of the Milanese elite, now stands as a silent testament to the passage of time. Right here, where you stand, ladies and gentlemen, once shimmered a grand oasis in the heart of Milan. The Kursaal Diana, inaugurated in 1908, wasn’t always about high fashion and silent grandeur. It began its life as a beacon of entertainment, a magnet for those seeking a taste of the good life. Imagine a stunning complex boasting a theater, a luxurious hotel, a bustling restaurant, and even a sphere court for the exciting game of pelota.

The Kursaal Diana was the brainchild of Achille Manfredini, an architect who poured his heart and soul into crafting a masterpiece of late Liberty style. It rose from the ashes of what was once Milan’s first public swimming pool, the “Bagno di Diana,” a popular spot that had graced this location since 1842. Sadly, the pool, once the heart of the “Bagno di Diana,” met its demise due to concerns over the water quality.

This wasn’t just a place for fleeting amusement. The Kursaal Diana played host to history. In 1914, it proudly hosted the very first edition of EICMA, a global motorcycle and bicycle exhibition. But just a few years later, tragedy struck. In 1921, during the tumultuous period of “biennio rosso,” a devastating anarchist bombing transformed this vibrant landmark into a scene of sorrow.

Over the years, the Kursaal Diana has witnessed countless transformations. Architect Giuseppe De Finetti stripped away the flamboyant Art Nouveau elements in 1922, replacing them with a more subdued elegance. The theater, once echoing with applause, morphed into a cinema, then into a space showcasing the creations of fashion giants like Gucci and Bally. Yet, through it all, the Kursaal Diana has endured. Today, it stands as a proud reminder of Milan’s ever-evolving spirit, a place where whispers of the past mingle with the echoes of the present.
