Once upon a time this very spot housed the Finkenau Women’s Clinic. Built between 1911 and 1914 by the renowned architect Fritz Schumacher its red brick facade bore witness to countless lives. Expansions followed in the late 1920s. The clinic closed its doors in 2000. A new chapter was about to begin.
In 2003 Hamburg envisioned a center for media education. A bold plan took shape. It involved transforming the old women’s clinic into a vibrant campus. This vision materialized in September 2010. The Kunst- und Mediencampus Hamburg was inaugurated.
The revitalization wasn’t merely cosmetic. A new building a sculptural masterpiece was added. It seamlessly blends with Schumacher’s original structure. This addition features a library media center a cafeteria and state-of-the-art labs. It’s a testament to the architectural genius of Gerber Architekten.
