“KuCK,” a curious name. Have you ever wondered what it means? Here at KuCK – Kunststoff- und Chemie-Kabinett, the name reveals all. KuCK stands for Kunststoff- und Chemie-Kabinett Erkner. Since 2012, this small exhibition and visitor center has stood near Erkner’s town hall.

KuCK focuses on the history of chemistry, especially plastics. It also looks at their present and future in Erkner and the Berlin-Brandenburg region. You will find small exhibitions and diverse information here. Competent staff and members are available during visiting hours.

The ChemieFreunde Erkner e.V. runs KuCK. The city made the space available to the association. This recognized their successful work over the years. The location was previously a tourist information office. KuCK helps maintain Erkner’s good reputation as a chemistry location. This reputation was hard-earned against old prejudices.

The opening of KuCK was a joyous event. The mayor visited and brought a gift. Representatives from the children’s farm also came with a green welcome message. The chairman of the association, Prof. Dr. Kossmehl, thanked the mayor. He also thanked the WGE Wohnungsgesellschaft Erkner for their support.

Posters about the history of chemistry and plastics decorate the walls. These focus especially on Erkner. Vitrines display items made of Bakelite. The exhibition is open Wednesdays from 2 PM to 5 PM. It is also open Sundays after announcement. KuCK coordinates with the local history museum where the ChemieFreunde also has exhibits.

A small selection of literature is available for those eager to learn. Comics from the 1950s introduce polymers and plastics. These comics feature the Digedags and come from Katrin Braune.

KuCK hopes to help you recognize the positive sides of chemistry and plastics. These are often unfairly criticized. The team looks forward to helping you.

Visit KuCK at Beuststr. 1/Ecke Friedrichstr. in Erkner. You can reach them by phone during visiting hours. The number is 03362 / 6533480. Come back soon and recommend this meeting place to others.
