Opened in May 2005 the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre stands before us. It’s a testament to resilience and the enduring power of art. This center known as KLPac wasn’t built from scratch. Its story began with tragedy and blossomed into a beacon of creativity.

In 1995 Faridah Merican and Joe Hasham created The Actors Studio. It was Malaysia’s first privately owned theater. It was located beneath Dataran Merdeka. But in 2003 devastating flash floods destroyed the underground complex. The arts community was left without a home.

From the ashes KLPac emerged. The Actors Studio joined forces with YTL Corporation and Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia. Together they built a fully integrated arts center. It opened its doors in May 2005 ready to nurture Malaysia’s performing arts scene.

KLPac is more than just a building. It’s a non-profit organization. Its mission is to cultivate and sustain the performing arts for all Malaysians. It provides a space for diverse and innovative performances. KLPac also hosts workshops classes and film screenings.

Inside KLPac you will find several performance spaces. Pentas 1 is a proscenium theatre with 504 seats. Pentas 2 is a black box theatre. It offers flexible seating for up to 192 people. Indicine is a smaller cinema-style space with 100 seats. There are also nine studios for rehearsals and training.

KLPac is home to the KLPac Orchestra. It was founded in 2006 and was formerly known as KLPac Sinfonietta. The orchestra adds another layer to KLPac’s rich artistic offerings.

Many renowned performers have graced the stages of KLPac. Patrick Teoh Sharifah Amani and Ahmad Zamil are just a few. The center has hosted acclaimed productions. These include Julius Caesar Cinderella and Macbeth.

KLPac isn’t just for seasoned professionals. The KLPac Academy offers programs for students of all levels. It also reaches out to underprivileged communities. Theatre for Young People provides valuable opportunities. Classes in music dance and drama are also available.

KLPac has hosted numerous events. The HSBC Classics music festival the French Art Festival and the Malaysian Dance festival have all been held here. These events showcase the diversity of artistic expression. They draw audiences from all walks of life.
