The plaque marks the site of the Krasna Settlement, an area where Czech settlers found a home, a place to build their lives and families. Established in 1892, it was named “Krasna,” Czech for “beautiful,” reflecting the picturesque landscape and the aspirations of the newcomers.
The community faced challenges, including flooding and storms, but they built a school for their children and a society centered around their shared heritage. Sadly, the Settlement gradually declined, its residents scattered to other areas, leaving behind a legacy of resilience and a testament to the pioneering spirit of Czech immigrants in Texas.
