Let’s step back to June 30, 1966. The Korea Sports Council established this center. It became the home for South Korea’s best athletes. The Korea National Training Center covers 100,000 square meters. That’s about 25 acres. It includes 24 buildings. These buildings hold training facilities, gymnasiums, and dormitories. Imagine the energy here. Athletes push their limits. They strive for excellence.

Over 20 sports have found a home here. Think of athletics. Picture gymnasts soaring. See archers take aim. Feel the power of taekwondo. Imagine wrestlers grappling. See swimmers cutting through water. Many other sports thrive within these walls.

Min Gwan-sik had a vision. He was president of the Korea Sports Council. He wanted to boost Korean sports after the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The Korea National Training Center began with a few buildings. Over 50 years it grew. It became a large-scale sports facility. It covers 3.6 million square feet of land. The center helped Korea rise in international sports.

The Korea National Training Center holds history. It also holds culture. It shows the hard work of many national team members. Their dedication echoes through the halls. In December 2014, Seoul recognized this. They named the center a “Future Heritage”.

In 2021, the National Korean Tennis Association made a change. They installed two Laykold Masters Gel courts. These courts sit next to an older liquid cushion court. Players and coaches can now compare them. The Gel courts reduce force by 17%. The older courts reduce force by only 6%. This protects the athletes.

Korean players often face overuse injuries. The Laykold Gel aims to help. It can reduce knee, ankle, and back injuries. These injuries often affect young athletes. The Gel courts were installed over an existing system. It used acrylic liquid cushions.

By 2011, the Taereung Training Center felt crowded. A newer facility was built. It is called Jincheon National Training Center. It now shares the responsibility of training Korea’s athletes.
