Established in 1998 by Ghana’s Ministry of Defence and commissioned in 2004, the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre was born from Ghana’s five decades of experience in peace operations. The centre aimed to share this expertise with other nations in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and across Africa. The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre recognized the growing need to train military, police, and civilian personnel for the complexities of modern peacekeeping. It’s one of only three Peacekeeping Training Centres of Excellence mandated by ECOWAS to provide training in peacekeeping and Peace Support Operations. It stands out as the first and only training centre in Africa to offer postgraduate programs in peace and security.
