In 1972, a bold vision took root at the University of San Diego. This vision became the Knauss School of Business. It began with the idea that global partnerships were the future of business. The Knauss School of Business was designed as a place where students could learn and grow, becoming responsible leaders. The founders envisioned small classes and a strong focus on global business. They prioritized both teaching and research. The school started small, with just six faculty members and 238 students. These students studied business administration, accounting, or economics. The Knauss School of Business expanded rapidly in its first ten years. A master’s of business administration (MBA) program was launched. By the early 1980s, the school had 30 faculty members and almost 1,200 students. Both the undergraduate and MBA programs earned accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). This recognition highlighted the school’s commitment to quality. With the growth came the need for more space. Thanks to a grant from the Olin Foundation, Olin Hall opened in 1984. It became the primary home for the Knauss School of Business. The school continues its commitment to developing high-performing, responsible leaders for the global business world.
