“Berlin’s highest climbing facility? Right here!” I announce, gesturing towards the Kletterturm Spandau. This impressive concrete structure juts 19 meters into the sky, a beacon for climbing enthusiasts. Located in the serene Spektepark, with the inviting waters of the Spektesee nearby, the Kletterturm Spandau offers a unique urban climbing experience. The Kletterturm Spandau is more than just a climbing wall. It’s a two-part concrete tower, connected by a sloping platform at about 8 meters. This design creates a variety of climbing routes, catering to different skill levels. The tower primarily features structure routes, supplemented by a few strategically placed grips. A word of caution: due to its height, you’ll need a “Berlin rope,” at least 40 meters long, to tackle this giant. The south side of the Kletterturm Spandau offers a unique challenge with its sintered surface. And if the weather turns sour, the covered chimney provides a sheltered climbing option. Keep in mind, the Kletterturm Spandau is fenced and requires a key and reservation. You can access the tower 24/7, but remember to book your spot and respect the climbing rules and regulations. Bring your own climbing gear and remember that the AlpinClub Berlin e.V. has house rights. So follow the instructions of ACB instructors.
