Klemensker

The steep incline of Simblegardsvej, one of the steepest streets in Denmark, leads us up to the village of Klemensker. Tucked between the rolling hills of Bornholm, this quiet village, with its population of 657 souls, is a hidden gem. It’s one of the few places on the island without a harbour. Klemensker, named after the parish church of St. Clement, is a place where time seems to move at a slower pace. This church is one of the most important landmarks in Klemensker, visible for miles around. The village has a charming inn, Klemens Kro, first mentioned in documents from 1564. The village is also famously known for its cheese production, boasting the only dairy on the island, Andelsmejeri St. Clemens. This dairy has been producing organic cheese since 1950, with the most famous of them all being the blue cheese “Danablu”.
