Picture the year 1860. A grand manor house rises in Klein Kussewitz. This is the Gutshaus Klein Kussewitz. It stands proudly a testament to the area’s rich history. Just a short drive from the seaside resort of Warnemünde it has a unique charm.

Klein Kussewitz a village in the Rostock district of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern boasts a fascinating past. It was once its own municipality. Then on January 1 2018 it became part of the Bentwisch community. Before that from 1921 to 1961 it was even part of Groß Kussewitz. The area has a long history. Its origins extend far back in time.

This quaint village lies ten kilometers east of Rostock. It nestles in a gently undulating landscape. The Carbäk and Peezer streams meander nearby. They both flow westward towards the lower Warnow River. Klein Kussewitz includes the districts of Groß Kussewitz and Volkenshagen.

A true gem of Klein Kussewitz is the fieldstone church in Volkenshagen. It dates back to the 13th century. Restored between 1892 and 1895 it still stands. Its brick tower has an octagonal upper section and a pointed spire. Inside are remnants of neo-Gothic furnishings and a gravestone inscribed in 1580. This church silently witnesses the passage of centuries. It has stood guard over the lives of generations.

The Gutshaus Klein Kussewitz itself is a sight to behold. Built at the end of the 19th century it’s more than just a building. It’s a venue. It hosts regular musical events. It’s also available for private celebrations. Nearby is a former silo. Transformed into living quarters in 2000 it shows the village’s adaptability. This silo the manor house and the adjacent storage building are all under monument protection. The same is true for the manor house from 1805 and another silo in Groß Kussewitz. These structures are tangible links to the past. They whisper stories of Klein Kussewitz’s evolution.

The nearest train station is Mönchhagen. It’s conveniently located about one kilometer west of the village center. This provides easy access for visitors to explore this charming village.
