This city draws its name from Leo Motzkin, a prominent figure in the early Zionist movement and an organizer of the First Zionist Congress in 1897. The Haganah, a Jewish defense organization, intercepted and destroyed an Arab arms convoy. They even killed the Arab forces’ commander, a turning point that contributed to the Jewish victory in the Battle of Haifa. Today, Kiryat Motzkin thrives as a city with a rich cultural landscape.
