We stand here in front of the Kirani James Athletic Stadium, a place that embodies the dreams and achievements of a small island nation. It is a modern marvel, built in St George’s, Grenada, and holds 8,000 cheering spectators. This stadium is more than just a place of sporting events. It is a symbol of national pride and a testament to the unwavering spirit of Grenada’s people. The stadium was built by China State Construction Engineering and was originally known as the Grenada National Stadium. The name was changed to Kirani James Athletic Stadium in 2017 in honor of Grenada’s first Olympic medalist, Kirani James, a star sprinter who won gold at the 2012 London Olympics. The stadium is also the home of the Grenada national football team. It was the stage for six exciting games during the 2016 CONCACAF Women’s U-17 Championship. You can almost feel the thrill and energy of those games as you stand here. The stadium has a running track and is also used for a variety of other events, including concerts and festivals.
