The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Highfield wasn’t always here in Harare. The work of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Zimbabwe began decades ago. Initially coordinated from South Africa. Four pioneers arrived in 1932 spreading the word throughout Southern Rhodesia. The early years weren’t easy. A ban in 1940 prohibited the import and distribution of literature. Many brothers faced imprisonment for maintaining their Christian neutrality.

Despite the hardships the good news spread. The ban was lifted six years later. The number of publishers tripled to 3500. To support this growth a branch office was established in Bulawayo in 1948. Brother Eric Cooke served as the first branch servant. Gilead-trained missionaries later joined strengthening the work.

Decades passed and the number of publishers grew steadily. More branch facilities were acquired to accommodate the expanding work. The current Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses Highfield was built in Harare and dedicated in December 1998. It serves as a hub for the 960 congregations across the territory.
