Ever wonder how a church finds its home? King of Kings Lutheran Church in San Antonio has a unique story. It began in March 1975. The Lutheran Church Extension Fund owned land on Dreamwood Drive. It was off Nacogdoches. This land would become the new church campus.
Initially the congregation worshipped in a shopping center. Later they moved to the Education building. Finally the present church was built in 1885. Rev Henry Biar became the first Senior Pastor on January 19 1975. He served until 2005. The Day Care Center opened in August 1976. It provided care for the community’s children.
In 2003 Pastor Jeffrey Doria and his family arrived. He was installed as Senior Pastor in 2005. Following Pastor Doria Pastor Neldo Schmidt arrived in 2017. The church offers services at 8 am and 10:45 am every Sunday. Communion is on the first third and fifth Sundays. Sunday school is at 9:30 am for all ages. Special services occur during Advent and Lent on Wednesday evenings. Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services are also held.
King of Kings Lutheran Church emphasizes scripture. They believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It guides teaching rebuking and training. The church also emphasizes grace.
