King Fahd International Stadium, initially named King Fahd International Stadium until 2023, is a multi-purpose stadium. It is located in Riyadh. Many call it “The Tent” or “Pearl of Stadiums”. These names reflect its unique design. The stadium opened in 1987. It quickly became a landmark.
Imagine the roar of the crowd. Picture the excitement during the 1989 FIFA World Youth Championship. The final match was held right here. This stadium has witnessed countless thrilling moments.
The stadium’s design is inspired by traditional Arabian tents. Its roof resembles a flower. This expresses the vastness of the desert. Twenty-four large white tents form the iconic cover. King Fahd International Stadium hosted the King Fahd Cup in 1992 and 1995. It was the sole venue for the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup. The stadium also hosted matches of the Arab Gulf Cup in 1988, 2002, and 2014.

David Guetta performed at the opening ceremony of Saudi Games 2022 here. The 2023 Supercopa de España final was hosted here as well. Barcelona won that cup.
Currently, King Fahd International Stadium is under renovation. The renovations started in December 2023. The stadium will be expanded to hold approximately 70,200 seats by 2026. It is preparing to host matches for the 2027 Asian Cup and the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
The area around King Fahd International Stadium is also being developed. Five side football fields are being added. Also, two FIFA training pitches. A football academy. Running tracks and a cycling track will be available. A sports shop, a sports museum, and a multi-sport hall are under construction.
