Kilianstädten is a part of Schöneck. Schöneck sits in the Main Kinzig district. Kilianstädten serves as the administrative heart of Schöneck. It is where the local government operates.

The area around Kilianstädten has a long history. People lived here over 7000 years ago. These early residents were Linearbandkeramikers. They were the first farmers in Central Europe. Archaeologists found longhouses from their time near Neuer Weg.

In 2006 an important discovery was made. It was the Kilianstädten massacre. Archaeologists found a mass grave. It contained at least 26 children and adults. These people died from blows and arrow wounds. This discovery gave important insights into the life in early Kilianstädten.

The first written record of Kilianstädten is from 839. In the Middle Ages Kilianstädten belonged to Hanau. Hanau later became the County of Hanau-Münzenberg. In 1326 there was the first proof of belonging to Hanau.

A priest was first mentioned in 1302. The Reinberg family had patronage rights. Later the Auerochs family took over. Before the Reformation, the church reported to Mainz. It was part of the Roßdorf Landkapitel.

Over time, the name Kilianstädten has changed. In 839 it was called Stetin. By 1290 it was known as Kilionsteiden. In 1302 people called it Kyliansteden.

The Reformation changed the region. Initially, the county embraced Lutheranism. Later, Count Philipp Ludwig II switched to a Reformed church policy. He enforced this change in Kilianstädten. The church then reported to the Hanau Konsistorium. Windecken became the middle authority.

In 1736 the last Hanau count died. Landgrave Friedrich I of Hessen-Kassel inherited Kilianstädten. In 1803 Hessen-Kassel became an electorate. During Napoleon’s rule, the area was under French control. Later, it returned to Hessen-Kassel.

In 1970, Kilianstädten joined with Büdesheim and Oberdorfelden. Together, they formed the municipality of Schöneck. Kilianstädten has an local council. This council represents the town’s interests.

In 1587, Kilianstädten had 49 riflemen and 22 pikemen. By 1632 there were 77 families. In 1754 there were 93 families with 435 residents. The population grew to 1302 by 1895. In 1939 there were 1899 residents. By 2012, Kilianstädten had 6102 residents.

Kilianstädten was approved to use a coat of arms in 1953.

A mill once stood at the western edge of Kilianstädten. It used a canal from the Nidder River. The SV Kilianstädten 1933 e. V. football club has existed since 1933.

The L3008 and L3009 state roads meet in Kilianstädten. Kilianstädten is on the Bad Vilbel-Stockheim railway line. This line is called the Niddertalbahn.

The Gelber Berg wind park is near Kilianstädten. It started in 2010. It has four Enercon E-82 wind turbines. Each turbine is 138 meters tall. They can each produce 2 MW of power. In Kilianstädten, there is a primary school. There are also four facilities for young children.
