Constructed between 1982 and 1989, the KHBP Mosque is much more than a beautiful building. It stands as a tribute, commissioned by the late King Hussein in memory of his grandfather, King Abdullah I. This isn’t just a place of worship; it’s a piece of history. The mosque’s impressive dome, a prominent feature of Amman’s skyline, spans 35 meters in diameter. Underneath its intricate blue mosaic, the main prayer hall can accommodate a staggering 7,000 worshippers. But the mosque’s capacity doesn’t end there. The spacious courtyard provides room for an additional 3,000 people, making it a gathering place for a significant portion of Amman’s Muslim community. The KHBP Mosque also houses a small women’s section and an exclusive royal enclosure. Beyond its religious significance, the KHBP Mosque is renowned for its openness to those of different faiths. It’s one of the few mosques in Amman that welcomes non-Muslim visitors. A visit offers a chance to appreciate the mosque’s stunning architecture and gain a deeper understanding of Islamic traditions. Just remember, while the mosque welcomes everyone, respectful attire is expected. Men should wear long trousers, and women are asked to cover their heads, arms, and legs.
