Founded in 1907 as a Realgymnasium. That’s where the story of the Kepler-Gymnasium in Freiburg begins. Now, standing before you, it’s hard to imagine its humble beginnings. It has evolved into a cornerstone of Freiburg’s educational landscape.

The Kepler-Gymnasium wasn’t always known by that name. It adopted its current name in 1949. This was a tribute to Johannes Kepler. He was the brilliant German mathematician and astronomer.

Originally, the school resided in the Herdern district. However, progress necessitated change. In 1998, the Kepler-Gymnasium moved to a new building in Rieselfeld. The old building in Herdern was torn down.

The Kepler-Gymnasium offers a wide range of educational opportunities. It caters to diverse student interests. The school emphasizes a comprehensive general education. It provides various profiles, including a bilingual program. A science and technology focus is also available.

What truly sets the Kepler-Gymnasium apart is its dedication to student support. The school operates as an open all-day school. It provides homework assistance and learning times. A refectory is also available. Students can participate based on their needs.

The Lernatelier is a unique resource. It offers students support for independent learning. Here, they can refine their learning strategies. They can also prepare for exams.

But learning isn’t confined to the classroom. Since 1925, the Kepler-Gymnasium has maintained its own Schullandheim in Luginsland. Classes five, six, seven, and nine use it. It enables learning outside regular classes.

The Kepler-Gymnasium provides numerous extracurricular activities. These include music, theater, stage technology, and media scouts. Debating, school first aid, and gardening are also offered. There are also projects with Bujumbura, Burundi.

Partnerships are vital. The Kepler-Gymnasium fosters connections nationally and internationally. These include partnerships with schools in France, Spain, and Poland. Projects also occur through the Erasmus+ program.

Notably, the Kepler-Gymnasium has adapted to modern needs. In 2005, the school underwent renovations. Existing rooms were transformed into science classrooms. These included new laboratories. The total cost of this project was 230,000 €. The lab equipment alone cost 130,000 €.

The Kepler-Gymnasium provides a safe and inclusive learning environment. They offer sports programs in cooperation with Freiburger clubs. These sports offers take place in the Sepp-Glaser-Sporthalle in the afternoon. All students from grades 5 to 7 can register. Some of the sport activities are basketball, football, parkour and dancing.

The Kepler-Gymnasium continues to evolve. It adapts to meet the needs of its students. From its foundation as a Realgymnasium to its modern facilities. The Kepler-Gymnasium remains a beacon of education in Freiburg.
