A crumbling stone wall. That’s all that remains of Kennishead Farm’s glory. This mid-19th-century farmhouse once stood proudly on the Old Pollock Estate. For over 700 years the Maxwell family owned the land. Then in 1960 Glasgow Corporation took over.

Kennishead Farm was a working farm until around 1997. Since then it has fallen into disrepair. The elements and vandalism have taken their toll. Overgrown weeds surround the remains of the main house. The once-used road leading to the farm is now fenced off. Fly-tippers have left their mark. Empty lager cans litter the mossy road tracks.

Inside the main farmhouse the floor is covered with debris. Shopping trolleys and bricks mingle with remnants of a life lived. A fireplace still holds some original tiles. A curtain clings stubbornly to a second-floor window. A barn owl has claimed the house as its own.

Imagine the courtyard. A hundred years ago smoke would have billowed from the chimneys. The sound of horses’ hooves would have echoed. Now only the distant hum of traffic disturbs the silence. Thorny bushes block access to the front of the farm.

Kennishead Farm is more than just a ruin. It’s a tangible link to Glasgow’s past. A silent testament to a time when farming thrived. It’s a place where history and nature intertwine creating a unique and haunting atmosphere. This is Kennishead Farm. A place to explore to reflect to remember.
