Before 1830 Reason Green and his slaves settled the area that would become Kenefick. Kenefick isn’t just a name. It’s a story etched into the Texas landscape. A story of railroads and lumber. Of a family’s legacy and a town’s tenacious spirit. Kenefick grew alongside the Beaumont Sour Lake and Western Railway. The Kenefick Construction Company built this railway after 1904. This construction company gave its name to the burgeoning settlement. Sawmills hummed. A commissary bustled with activity during East Texas’ lumber boom. Cattle and agriculture thrived. Kenefick’s importance grew. The establishment of a voting precinct in 1956 showcased this. In 1968 residents voted overwhelmingly to incorporate their town. The population fluctuated. Estimates ranged from 150 in 1973 to 763 by 1980. In 1990 it dipped to 435. But Kenefick’s spirit remained strong. Even today it thrives despite its modest size. This tiny town holds a remarkable history. A history intertwined with the Kenefick Construction Company. A history reflected in its resilient people. This isn’t just a place on a map. Kenefick is a testament to perseverance. It is a vibrant community. It remains a hidden gem in Liberty County. A place where the past whispers its stories. A place where the future is unwritten. Yet, it is firmly rooted in its rich history. The story of Kenefick is a reminder. It shows that even small towns can hold immense stories. Kenefick’s tale is one of growth and resilience. It’s a story of community spirit. A spirit that has endured through time. So stand here. Feel the history breathe around you. Let the legacy of Kenefick inspire you. This is more than just a place. This is Kenefick.
