Kempas is a suburb in Johor Bahru Malaysia. It may seem like just another spot on the map. But Kempas has its own story to tell.

Kempas is accessible by bus. The Bas Muafakat Johor route P113 will take you from Larkin Sentral. However buses operate at low frequencies. Plan your trip accordingly.

The Kempas Highway also known as Jalan Kempas is a major route here. It is part of the North South Expressway project. The highway was completed in 1994. It provides access to Johor Bahru. This access is from the North South Expressway Southern Route via Exit 255.

The Kilometre Zero of Kempas Highway starts at Jalan Kempas Lama junctions. The highway allows a maximum speed limit of up to 90 km/h.

There is also the Kempas Baru railway station. It was formerly known as Kempas Bahru railway station. The station is named after the town of Kempas.

An older station once stood 100 metres away. It was built for the Federated Malay States Railway. Railway fans called it Kempas Lama railway station. The Japanese destroyed it during World War II. It was rebuilt after the war. But was demolished a few years later. Malayan Railways then ordered a new station. “Kempas Baru” meaning “New Kempas” became its name.

Kempas is also a state constituency in Johor. It is represented in the Johor State Legislative Assembly. The constituency was first contested in 1995.

In 2020 the population was 102118. In 2022 there were 62011 electors.

Kempas has 14 polling districts. These districts include SMK Tan Sri Mohamed Rahmat and SA Kempas Baru. Also SK Kempas and SK Taman Damansara Aliff are polling districts.

Kempas has seen several representatives in the Johor State Legislative Assembly.
