Kearns High School

Opened in 1966, Kearns High School stands as a testament to community spirit. The first graduating class celebrated their achievements in 1967. Kearns High School, nestled in Kearns, Utah, pulsates with the energy of over 2,400 students. These Cougars, as they’re known, roam the halls in a sea of green and gold, their school colors. Originally built for grades 10-12, Kearns High now embraces 9th graders as well. This change, implemented in the 2014-2015 school year, reflects the school’s commitment to inclusive education. Imagine a school where every student has an iPod Touch. That’s not a futuristic fantasy, but a past reality at Kearns High. In 2010, the iCougars program launched, equipping every student with this technology. They used it for everything from tracking assignments to learning new languages. This innovative program, funded by a federal grant, showcased Kearns High’s dedication to integrating technology into education. Kearns High isn’t just about classrooms. It boasts Gates Field, a baseball stadium that dwarfs most others in Utah. With a seating capacity of 2,500, Gates Field is a local landmark. Look for the plaques above the dugouts. They bear famous quotes from baseball legends Babe Ruth and Ernie Banks. Even a pandemic couldn’t stop the learning at Kearns High. When COVID-19 forced school closures in March 2020, the school transitioned seamlessly to distance learning. This ensured that students could continue their education despite the unprecedented circumstances. From the halls of Kearns High to professional arenas, Cougar alumni have made their mark. Notable alumni include Jeffrey Bassa, a linebacker for the Oregon Ducks, and Brandon Duckworth, a professional baseball player. Sim Gill, the Salt Lake County District Attorney, and DaMarques Johnson, a former UFC fighter, also call Kearns High their alma mater.
