Kean University East Campus, located in Hillside New Jersey, is part of Kean University. Kean University has a rich history dating back to 1855. It started as the Newark Normal School. Its initial goal was to train teachers for Newark.

Over the years, the institution evolved. It changed names to reflect its expanding mission. It became the New Jersey State Teachers College. Later, it was known as Newark State College and Kean College of New Jersey. In 1997, it achieved university status becoming Kean University of New Jersey.

The East Campus itself sits on 35.4 acres. This was formerly the Pingry School campus. It now houses several important facilities. These include the Nathan Weiss East Campus. The College of Health Professions and Human Services is also located here. Let’s not forget the President’s House and the Ruth Horowitz Alumni House.

Jacqueline Towns Court has hosted some famous NBA teams. The Minnesota Timberwolves and Milwaukee Bucks have practiced here.

Kean University’s athletic teams are called the Cougars. Their colors are Kean Blue and light blue. The university competes in NCAA Division III sports. They are part of the New Jersey Athletic Conference for most sports. Men’s volleyball competes in the Continental Volleyball Conference. Men’s lacrosse is in the Coastal Lacrosse Conference.

The university has expanded over the years. Today, it has multiple campuses. There is the Main Campus and Liberty Hall Campus in Union. There’s also a campus in Toms River called Kean Ocean. Kean Skylands is in Jefferson. Kean even has an international campus in Wenzhou China.

Kean University has a strong academic reputation. In 2024, U.S. News & World Report ranked it among the top National Universities. It was also recognized for its performance in social mobility.

Kean offers a wide range of programs. There are over 50 undergraduate programs. It also has more than 70 doctoral master’s and certificate programs. Students can choose from six colleges. These include the College of Business and Public Management. There is also the College of Education.
