Ever noticed how some old stones seem to whisper secrets? Right here before us stands the Katzenturm. It is a silent witness to centuries of Liechtenstein’s story.

The Katzenturm’s story stretches back into the mists of time. It saw Liechtenstein evolve from a quiet rural corner to a prosperous nation. Imagine this land centuries ago. The Rhine plain was already a hub. Two lordships named Vaduz and Schellenberg existed here. They were part of the Holy Roman Empire.

In 1719, these two lordships joined together. They became the principality of Liechtenstein. Even then, the Katzenturm stood tall. It watched as Liechtenstein joined the Confederation of the Rhine in 1806. Later, it joined the German Confederation in 1815.

The Katzenturm has seen Liechtenstein navigate European politics. It saw the country become independent in 1866. Liechtenstein remained neutral during World War I and World War II. The Katzenturm stood as a steadfast guardian.

After World War II, Liechtenstein changed rapidly. Industries grew. Francis Joseph II led this change. The Katzenturm witnessed this quick growth. It watched Liechtenstein join the United Nations in 1990. It also saw the country enter the European Free Trade Association in 1991. Liechtenstein became part of the European Economic Area and the World Trade Organization in 1995.

Even today, the Katzenturm remains. It is a proud symbol of Liechtenstein’s past. It is a reminder of the country’s journey through time. It connects us to the people who shaped this land. This tower links us to their triumphs and struggles. The Katzenturm embodies Liechtenstein’s enduring spirit.
