Time stood still. The Kasino Frohnau clock tower. Its hands frozen. For years. Until recently.

The Kasino Frohnau. A landmark in Berlin’s Frohnau garden city. A majestic building complex. It boasts a 35-meter-high tower. A casino complex with a restaurant and a large beer garden. Architects Hart & Moritz Ernst Lesser designed it. Construction finished in 1910.

Originally it housed shops and businesses on the ground and lower floors. A restaurant operated beneath the tower. Apartments filled the upper floors and even part of the tower. Then came the war. Partial destruction. A long period of neglect followed. High vacancy rates plagued the building.

But in 2015 Concarus Real Estate Invest GmbH acquired the Kasino Frohnau. Extensive renovations transformed it. Modern retail spaces emerged. The existing apartments underwent a careful restoration. Some were even newly rented. The forecourt was redesigned. A new annex was built. The project now offers about 4900 square meters of residential and commercial space. REWE and Rossmann are among the anchor tenants. There are 17 apartments too.

The tower itself. A fascinating piece of history. It served initially as a water tower with an observation deck. Inside. A pressure water tank provided water. The adjacent buildings relied on it too. The impressive clockwork mechanism. Massive gears and lead weights powered the clocks. Four clock faces adorn the tower pointing to each direction.

Years of inactivity silenced the clock’s chimes. But thanks to the owner Joh Berenberg Gossler & C KG and the Reinickendorf district office. The clock is working again. The Kasino Frohnau. A symbol of Frohnau’s history and its enduring charm. A testament to careful restoration. A beautiful blending of old and new. The Kasino Frohnau stands tall a reminder of its vibrant past and its exciting future.
