Have you ever heard of Kamstrup? It is a small village right in the heart of Roskilde. To get to Kamstrup, you would probably take a short drive from the city center and head out towards the countryside. And as you drive, you might find yourself surrounded by forests and meadows, and the air feels incredibly fresh. This is where you get to know Kamstrup, a village steeped in history and charm.
A small village it may be but it already existed almost 800 years ago as it was mentioned in 1257 as Chamstorp. Back then, the village was closely connected to the neighboring village of Skalstrup as well. But there was a lot of land around both villages. In the 18th century, the land was split up and the farms ended up as smaller lots. And a few years later, in 1888, the first dairy cooperative was built here. This dairy still exists, but today, the most important contribution to the local economy is the Kamstrup company – a company for smart water and energy meters. You can see how the village has thrived overtime!
