Kampeng Pagoda

Deep within the heart of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, lies the sacred Wat Phnom, also known as Kampeng Pagoda. King Ponhea Yat, recognizing the significance of the location, moved the capital to this area and further expanded the temple grounds. A stupa was erected in his honor, forever linking his legacy to Kampeng Pagoda. Over the centuries, Kampeng Pagoda has undergone several reconstructions, each adding layers of history and artistry to its structure. Today, visitors can admire the intricate murals adorning the walls, depicting scenes from Jataka tales and the Reamker, the Khmer version of the Ramayana. A small shrine dedicated to Lady Penh stands as a tribute to the woman whose discovery gave rise to both a temple and a city.
