Was Kallangur always destined to be a “goodly place”? That’s the meaning of its Indigenous Australian name. Kallangur is nestled within the traditional lands of the Yugarabul people. However, the word “Kalangoor” itself comes from the Kabi dialect. This dialect originates from the Gubbi Gubbi people to the north. Today, Kallangur is a thriving suburb in the City of Moreton Bay. Before the convenience of the Hornibrook Bridge, Kallangur thrived as a key stop on the road to the Redcliffe peninsula. This bustling route saw Cobb & Co coaches rumble through, connecting travelers to destinations far and wide. Life in early Kallangur wasn’t all hustle and bustle. In 1930, Kallangur State School opened its doors, a testament to the growing community. But Kallangur holds a special place in history, marked by a unique tribute. In 2005, a poignant reminder of sacrifice was unveiled. An ANZAC memorial gate, adorned with a bronze statue, now stands tall. This memorial, located at the corner of Anzac Avenue and Goodfellows Road, serves as a solemn reminder of the brave souls who served their country.
