A home for Christian associations. But also a space for all citizens. That is the Jugendhaus Wartburg in Görlitz. Its story began long before it became the youth center we see today.
The roots of this building stretch back to the mid-19th century. Imagine Görlitz in those days. The city was growing, changing. New buildings rose to meet the needs of a growing population. This building was one of them.
After expansions and renovations, the Trägerverein Jugendhaus “Wartburg” was founded in 1992. In the same year, it took over the building. This was a turning point. The Jugendhaus Wartburg became a reality. It provided a home for Christian associations and initiatives. It opened its doors to all citizens of Görlitz. It offered space for culture, sports, and social activities.
The Jugendhaus Wartburg is like its famous sister in Eisenach. It has a Christian background. And it is open to every visitor. The Trägerverein Jugendhaus “Wartburg” maintains the house.
The association’s purpose is clear. It wants to run the Jugendhaus “Wartburg”. It aims to be a place for diverse Christian work. This includes children, youth, and families. This is based on the “Paris Basis” of the YMCA.
Inside the Jugendhaus Wartburg, you will find many things. There is a kindergarten run by the Evangelische Innenstadtgemeinde. There are four event rooms or halls. You’ll also find offices of the CVJM-Landesverband. And the Ev. Stadtjugendarbeit Görlitz – esta e.V. has space here too.
There are group rooms for children’s and youth work. A club serves as an open youth center. It’s run by esta e.V. for children and teens. The Jugendhaus Wartburg also offers accommodation. There is a shared apartment for volunteers. It has three beds. Several kitchens and sanitary facilities are available. And a reception area welcomes visitors.
Regular groups, working groups, and projects take place here. These include the Jungschar and Teeniekreis. Most are run by the associations based in the house.
The Jugendhaus Wartburg is more than just a building. It is a living place. It supports Christian work. It is mission-oriented for children and families.

The Jugendhaus Wartburg also hosts events. For example, “Princess Marie”. This is a paper theater with seven fairy tales and a girl. It is based on motifs of the Brothers Grimm. It is for everyone ages four and up. It took place on November 9th and 10th.
