In 1993, a small seed of faith was planted in Rancho San Diego. This seed would blossom into Journey Community Church. Mike and Laurie Burns, after serving in Grenada and Horizon Christian Fellowship, felt a calling. They took a leap of faith and held their first small group meeting. A little over a month later, on Easter Sunday 1993, Journey Community Church officially launched. Their first service, held in a parking lot, drew a crowd of 350 people. Journey Community Church embraced a “come-as-you-are” philosophy from the start. This inclusivity attracted people from diverse backgrounds. The church grew rapidly. It eventually moved from Rancho San Diego to Monte Vista High School, and finally settled in La Mesa. Today, Journey Community Church thrives in its La Mesa location, with a weekend attendance averaging 2,500 people.
