“Imagine the echoes of laughter and industry mingling in the air”. That’s the vibe you get standing before the Josetti Höfe today. These courtyards are more than just brick and steel. They whisper tales of Berlin’s vibrant past.

The Josetti Höfe reside in the historic Luisenstadt. They stretch from Rungestraße to the Spree. This location was once a simple wood storage area. Now, it is a landmark.

Back in 1906, this area transformed. A sprawling commercial complex arose here. Its name? The Josetti Höfe.

From 1923, the Josetti company produced Juno cigarettes here. After World War II, the state-owned Berlin cigarette factory continued production until 1960. The scent of tobacco once filled these courtyards.

But times changed. A documentary film studio moved in later. Even the DDR computer manufacturer Robotron set up shop here. After reunification, the State Office for the Settlement of Open Property Issues took residence.

By 2004, smaller businesses began to breathe new life into the Josetti Höfe. Then, in 2012, the Bato group Real Estate Investments initiated a complete makeover. They modernized the complex. The usable area grew from 13000 to over 14600 square meters.

Today, media and finance companies primarily occupy the Josetti Höfe. The buildings have adapted to modern demands. Yet, the echoes of the past still resonate.

Look closely at the architecture. The main wings use a three-bay steel skeleton. This allows for flexible layouts and large production spaces. The side wings are narrower two-bay constructions. Stairwells and elevators ensure easy access to every part of the building.

Notice the main facade. It stretches across two plots and rises four to five stories. It follows the slight curve of the street. Three multi-axis projections rise a story higher. Vertical divisions through pilasters add rhythm to the long facade. The Jugendstil decor is subtle, but it adds elegance.

The architect designed the Josetti Höfe thoughtfully. The building reflects both functionality and aesthetic appeal. It stands as an example of the commercial architecture typical of the Luisenstadt.

The Josetti Höfe is more than just a pretty facade. It is a designated historical monument. It reflects Berlin’s industrial and cultural heritage.

So, next time you pass by, remember the story of the Josetti Höfe. A former wood storage area became a cigarette factory. It then transformed into a modern business hub. It shows Berlin’s ever-changing spirit.
