“Another Sunday, another chance for spiritual growth” I think, as we approach the Joong Ang Presbyterian Church. This church stands as a beacon of faith. It is located at 32-50 61st Street in Woodside. Let’s uncover the story of this unique place of worship.

The Joong Ang Presbyterian Church is part of the Korean American Presbyterian Church. It is dedicated to Reformed theology. The church focuses on spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

This church strives to be a community of believers. They are faithful to God’s call. They worship and faithfully preach God’s Word. They properly administer the sacraments. They exercise church discipline. They glorify the Lord in all they do. The Joong Ang Presbyterian Church seeks to faithfully preach and teach biblical truth. They believe in the inerrant Holy Word of God.

The church also seeks to be a community of servants. They serve the Lord. They serve their fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. The KAPC holds to the creed and doctrine. This includes the 12 Creeds of the KAPC. It also includes the Westminster Confession of Faith.

Pastor Tim Young leads the English Ministry at Joong Ang Presbyterian Church since September 2015. He was ordained in March 2016. He is part of the West Presbytery of the KAPC. Pastor Young completed his undergraduate studies at Wheaton College. He received his MDiv from Westminster Theological Seminary. He is currently working on his PhD in church history at Westminster. Notably, Korean American megachurches like the Korean American Presbyterian Church of Queens are expanding. They connect with people outside the Korean American community. The Queens church hosts services in English, Russian, and Chinese.

At the Korean American Presbyterian Church of Queens four different congregations gather. They meet in Flushing under one roof. The Korean ministry is in the main sanctuary. The youth group and Russian ministry are across the hall. The English and Chinese ministries are upstairs. Every Sunday they gather to come closer to God.

These churches began humbly. They started in homes or storefronts. They served as meeting places for first-generation Korean Americans. This followed the third wave of Korean immigration. That was from 1976 to 1990. Now, they open doors for other immigrants. They act as a host church for their congregations.

The Joong Ang Presbyterian Church embodies this spirit. It welcomes diverse communities. It provides a space for them to worship and grow together. It is a testament to the evolving nature of faith. It is a multi-ethnic, multi-generational community.

The goal is to have congregations where we can grow. We can learn and worship together. This is an important task for a church. It is important for our city. Joong Ang Presbyterian Church stands as a reminder. It is a reminder of the power of faith to unite and uplift.
