“1972.” A year etched in the legacy of the University of Southern California. That’s when the Joint Educational Project House, or JEP House as it’s affectionately known, first opened its doors. This unassuming building, right here before us, became the heart of one of the nation’s oldest and largest service-learning programs. The Joint Educational Project House isn’t just a building. It’s a launchpad for thousands of USC students each year. They embark on transformative journeys of service-learning, work-study, and volunteer programs. Imagine over 2,000 students annually channeling their academic passion into real-world impact. The Joint Educational Project House connects their classroom learning with the vibrant pulse of the surrounding community. The JEP House has earned accolades and recognition for its groundbreaking approach to service-learning. It partners with local schools, community organizations, healthcare facilities, and legal clinics. JEP doesn’t just send students out into the community. It provides them with the tools and reflection to understand the complexities they encounter. The Joint Educational Project House fosters a deep understanding of the challenges faced by our neighbors. In 2022, JEP celebrated a momentous milestone: 50 years of making a difference. Fifty years of connecting students with the community. Fifty years of learning, growing, and transforming lives, all stemming from this very spot, the Joint Educational Project House.
