Construction on the Malaysian side of the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System began in November 2020. The Singaporean side followed in January 2021. The Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System will feature two stations. These are Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru and Woodlands North in Singapore. These stations will have co-located customs, immigration, and quarantine facilities. This will streamline the border crossing process.

The Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System will be operated by RTS Operations. This is a joint venture between Malaysia’s Prasarana and Singapore’s SMRT Corporation. The trains will run on a light rail system. They can reach speeds of up to 80 km/h.

The Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System is expected to open by the end of 2026. It will replace the KTMB Shuttle Tebrau. The fares will be competitive, ensuring affordability for daily commuters.
