Look at the statue’s inscription. It reads: “In memory of Joey Dunlop 1952-2000. ‘King of the Mountain’ 26 times TT winner.” The people of the Isle of Man were gifted this statue. It honors Joey and the connection to Ballymoney. The unveiling happened in June 2002. Ferry Brouwer from Arai Helmet and Hon. David Cretney did the honors.

Notice the Arai Helmet logo. The Isle of Man Government Coat of Arms and Ballymoney Coat of Arms are there too. They are all beneath the inscription. They symbolize important connections.

Dunlop’s accomplishments earned him an MBE in 1986. In 1996, he received an OBE. This recognized his humanitarian work. He aided children in Romanian orphanages.

Tragically, Joey Dunlop died in 2000. It happened during a race in Estonia. Yet, his legacy lives on. The Joey Dunlop Foundation helps disabled visitors to the Isle of Man.

Beyond this statue, the 26th Milestone bend on the Snaefell Mountain Road bears his name. It’s known as “Joey’s.” It marks his impact on the TT course.
