Here stands a testament to modern engineering. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is not just a bridge. It is a symbol of connection and progress.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge officially opened on June 30, 2024. This event marked the culmination of seven years of intense construction. The bridge links Shenzhen and Zhongshan. It reduces travel time between the two cities to just 30 minutes.

This mega-project spans approximately 24 kilometers. It integrates bridges, islands, tunnels, and underwater interchanges. The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge is one of the most complex cross-sea projects in the world. It is a marvel of modern engineering.

Originally named the Lingdingyang Bridge, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge features a 1,666-meter super-large span. Its clearance height of 76.5 meters makes it the highest clearance sea bridge globally. This design accommodates busy navigation.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge includes a 6,845-meter undersea tunnel. It is the longest and widest undersea steel-shell concrete immersed tunnel in the world. The tunnel comprises 32 sections. Each section weighs about 80,000 tons.

The West Artificial Island is a crucial part of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge. It covers about 137,000 square meters. The island supports the bridge-tunnel conversion. It uses 57 steel cylinders. Each cylinder has a diameter of 28 meters and a height of 35-40 meters.

The total investment for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge was approximately 46 billion RMB. PCK Group played a key role in the construction. The company supplied high-quality steel pipes for the project. These pipes are 3.3 meters in diameter, 35 meters long, and weigh 64 tons.

The Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge showcases numerous world records. It has the largest span for an offshore steel box girder suspension bridge at 1,666 meters. It also boasts the largest navigation clearance height for an offshore bridge at 76.5 meters. The bridge withstood a maximum vibration test wind speed of 83.7 m/s. This demonstrates its resilience.

The bridge also features the longest bi-directional eight-lane underwater immersed tube tunnel. The tunnel is 5,035 meters long and consists of 32 segments. It also includes the world’s first underwater highway interchange. This includes the airport interchange.

Hempel provided a customized coating solution for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge. This ensures long-lasting aesthetics and superior corrosion protection. The coating system includes Hempadur Avantguard, Hempel’s Epoxy MIO, and Hempatop Finish 830 HS. Around 2 million liters of coating were used.

The successful opening of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge accelerates the integration of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It stands as a testament to China’s engineering prowess and Guangdong’s innovative solutions. The bridge not only connects cities but also exemplifies the potential of modern infrastructure.
