Let’s step back in time. In 1921, the Japanese Army established the Shimoshizu branch. It was part of the Army Aviation School. By 1924, it became the Shimoshizu Army Flight School. This school played a crucial role. It trained pilots for the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force.
During World War II, the school closed in June 1944. It was replaced by the Shimoshizu Training Flying Corps. After the war, the base transitioned. In 1955, it became part of the Ground Self-Defense Force.
Today JGSDF Camp Shimoshizu is a key training and operational center. The High School is responsible for training air defense personnel. Various units are stationed here. These include the 2nd High-Angle Special Forces Group. There is also the Eastern District Support Unit.
JGSDF Camp Shimoshizu has various support units. The High-Angle Education Support Company is present. The 301st High-Angle Direct Support Company is here too. Finally, the 4th Direct Support Small Unit supports the 334th High-Angle Company.
The camp’s strategic location is noteworthy. It has convenient access to major transportation. The Higashi-Kanto Expressway is nearby. This connects to the Chiba Kita and Yotsukaido Interchange. National Routes 14, 16, 51, and 126 are also close. The JR East Sobu Main Line is accessible via Yotsukaido Station. This ensures efficient movement of personnel. It also helps in the transport of equipment.
Several units have been stationed here over the years. The 2nd High-Angle Special Forces Group was formed in 1956. It became part of the Eastern District Army in 1966. The 119th Special Forces Battalion was incorporated into the High School in 1966. The 123rd Special Forces Battalion joined the High School in 1966 as well. The 1st Rocket Experiment Training Corps was integrated into the High School in 1966. The 309th High-Angle Company was newly formed in 1970. It moved to Aonogahara Garrison in 1976. The 301st Wireless Guidance Machine Company moved to Shizunai Garrison in 1985. In 2007, the 308th High-Angle Company was reorganized. It became the 334th High-Angle Company.
