Here at Regis University sits the Jesuit House. It is more than just a residence. It is a hub for the dedicated members of the Society of Jesus. These Jesuits contribute significantly to the university and the wider community.
The Jesuit House is officially named Faber Jesuit House. It is perched atop the hill. Its location is directly west of St. John Francis Regis Chapel. Nearly all the Jesuits serving at Regis University live here. All those assigned to Arrupe Jesuit High School also reside at the Jesuit House.
Currently, Faber Jesuit House at Regis University is home to twelve Jesuits. Fr. Fernando Álvarez Lara is one of them. He is a professor of Theology and Religious Studies. His focus is on Latinx Theology and Ignatian Spirituality. Before joining the Jesuits in 1998, he was a chemical engineer.
Another resident is Fr. Kevin Burke. He serves as Vice President for Mission. Previously, he was Dean at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara Berkeley. He has also worked at Regis University and Boston College.
Fr. Eustace Sequeira is also a member of the Jesuit House. He teaches courses for the School of Professional Advancement. His courses include Death and Dying and Jesuit Spirituality. He also serves as a sacramental minister at Denver area parishes. He accompanies mourners at Mt. Olivet. Before his time at Regis, he was a pastor and broadcaster in Rome. He also spent years working in Communications in Zambia, Africa.
Fr. Joe T. Nguyen resides here too. He dedicates his time to retreat ministry. His work extends throughout the United States and abroad.
Fr. Hung Pham is an alumnus and former professor of Regis University. A native of Vietnam, he immigrated to Denver in 1985. He now serves as provincial assistant for formation. He accompanies Jesuit scholastics, brothers, and priests. He also directs the Office of Ignatian Spirituality. He leads seminars on Ignatian Spirituality in various countries.
Fr. Tom Curran also calls the Jesuit House his home. He came from Kansas City. He was on staff at Rockhurst University for 16 years. He now coordinates the Jesuit Prison Education Network. He is originally from Philadelphia. His accent is considered funny by some.
Fr. Michael Wegenka is from Houston, Texas. He has worked at Regis Jesuit High School. He also worked at his alma mater, Strake Jesuit. He was ordained in 2018. He now works as a vocation promoter. He also assists with sacramental ministry at local parishes.
Lastly, Fr. Kevin Dyer moved to Denver to become the senior national chaplain. He works with the Fellowship of Catholic University Students. Before this, he spent seven years at Regis Jesuit High School. He also spent seven years at Jesuit High School of New Orleans.
The Jesuit House is not the only Jesuit residence associated with Regis University. The Xavier Jesuit Center is located just north of the campus.
The Jesuits bring a rich array of experiences. They also bring diverse expertise to Regis University. They are dedicated to education and spiritual growth. They significantly enhance the community.
