Imagine over 600 people gathering here. This is Jesu Christi HLT. It stands as a testament to faith in Chemnitz. In the 1920s, Chemnitz hosted three congregations. It was the largest gathering outside the United States then.

Let’s journey back to the early days. The first congregation in Germany formed in 1843. It was in Hessen-Darmstadt. Elder John Taylor preached in Hamburg in 1851. He oversaw the translation of church literature. This helped spread the word.

The number of members in Germany grew. Even after World War II, faith remained strong. Members in East Germany kept their beliefs. They maintained contact with the church in the West.

Ezra Taft Benson played a key role. He organized a massive aid project after the war. Benson helped the starving population. This project became known as CARE. Later, Benson became president of the church.

A significant moment occurred in 1985. The Freiberg Temple was dedicated in Saxony. It was the first temple on German soil. It marked a new chapter. The Freiberg Temple was later remodeled. It was rededicated in 2002. Another temple followed in 1987. It was the Frankfurt Temple in Friedrichsdorf.

Today, the church has a strong presence. There are three missions in Germany. They are located in Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich. Over 39,700 members gather in more than 160 units. Many are second, third, or fourth-generation members. Their roots run deep.

Joseph Smith founded the church. It happened on April 6, 1830, in Fayette, New York. It has grown into a global organization since then. Now, there are over 15 million members worldwide. They worship in 150 temples.

Two notable German members stand out. Karl Gottfried Maeser was a pedagogue. Helmuth Hübener resisted the Nazi regime. He was executed in 1942 at age 17.

Jesu Christi HLT is more than a building. It is a symbol of resilience. It represents community and faith. It is a place where generations connect. It is a part of Chemnitz’s rich history. It shows how faith can thrive. Even through challenging times.
