That towering neon oil derrick. You see it right? That’s Jerry’s Nugget. It’s a North Las Vegas landmark. More than just a casino it’s a family legacy.

Jerry’s Nugget didn’t start there. It began much smaller. In 1964 Jerry Lodge and his brother-in-law Jerry Stamis opened a casino. It was just a 6400 square foot space. That’s smaller than many homes. But it had a heart. A Greek immigrant heart. They had previously run casinos in Alaska Idaho and even Lovelock Nevada.

Four years later the two Jerrys made a big move. They bought the Bonanza Club. That’s this very building. This building added 10000 square feet. It also came with the oil derrick. A giant neon sign once the tallest in Las Vegas. Smart move. That derrick is practically a free advertisement.

The Bonanza Club had some interesting history too. In 1959 the Nevada Gaming Control Board investigated it. They found altered dice and a short deck of cards. Cheating allegations. The Adams brothers the owners at the time denied any wrongdoing. Their pit boss took the blame. He claimed he added the rigged dice to deter winning gamblers. The short deck’s origin remained a mystery.

Jerry’s Nugget expanded several times. Renovations in 1983 and 1996 added more gaming space restaurants a theater even a poker room. It later closed. Today Jerry’s Nugget boasts 32511 square feet of gaming. That’s a lot of slots.

The Stamis family still owns and operates Jerry’s Nugget. Three generations have poured their lives into this casino. Even when it faced bankruptcy in 2012. They persevered. It’s a testament to their dedication. A testament to family.

Jerry’s Nugget is known for more than just gambling. It’s famous for its food. Especially its desserts. People rave about the eclairs. It’s a local favorite. It’s a family-friendly environment. Many employees have worked there for decades. That’s loyalty.

And then there are the playing cards. In the 1970s Jerry’s Nugget ordered a custom deck. They ended up in storage for 20 years. They then became collector’s items selling for hundreds of dollars. A quirky story. A unique piece of Las Vegas history. This building Jerry’s Nugget is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a legacy. A story etched in neon lights and delicious desserts. It’s a story worth savoring.
